Ronald Howard Ward

Ron Ward, 59, of Frederick County, Maryland, formerly of Frostburg, Maryland, died Saturday, March 23rd, 2002, at home. He is survived by his wife, Dena Ward Clayton; father, Howard F. Ward, of Frostburg; brother, Gerald F. Ward, Sr., of Frederick; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Karen Ward of Frostburg; nephew, Gerald F. Ward, Jr., of San Antonio, Texas; nephew and niece, Jeffrey and Natalie Ward, of Frostburg; father-in-law, John W. Clayton, of Mount Solon, Virginia; sister-in-law, Neva Clayton, of Bridgewater, Virginia; and a multitude of friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Doris (Stilwell) Ward, and by his mother-in-law, Fran (Kidwell) Clayton.

In 1965, Ron received a B.A., then taught art in public schools before joining the Marine Corps. In 1972, he achieved an M.Ed. degree and launched his lifelong career in the human services field.

In 1989, Ron and Dena founded the non-profit agency, R & D Instructional Services, Inc., serving people with developmental disabilities in Maryland and later in Tennessee. Ron served as C.E.O. and President of the Board of Directors. His colleague, Debra Langseth, commented,
"Ron was a kind and generous man who gave everyone the utmost dignity, respect, and acceptance, regardless of their circumstances."

Ron was also a founder and partner in Quality Care Internet, providing mental health services in Washington and Prince George's Counties.

Ron's interests included drawing, photography, meditation, teaching stress management, nature appreciation, computers, and communing with people.

A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, April 6th, 1:00-3:00 p.m., in the fellowship hall of the First English Baptist Church in Frostburg, Maryland. A remembrance gathering is planned for late June in Frederick, Maryland, to celebrate and pay tribute to Ron's life.
